Driving Towards a Greener Future
Our Commitment to Fleet Electrification and Sustainability
Why are we going Electric?
The transportation sector is evolving rapidly, and we’re embracing the change. For us, the move to electric vehicles is about more than just compliance—it’s about leadership. Our customers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce their environmental footprint, and we want to be a proactive part of that solution.
Electrification reduces our greenhouse gas emissions, improves fuel efficiency, and positions us to take advantage of cost savings over the long term. With a focus on local and regional drayage, our operations are ideally suited for the current range and capabilities of electric trucks, especially in and around the Port of Vancouver.
Our Progress so far.
Our journey toward fleet electrification is already well underway. In 2024, we installed our first heavy-duty EV charging infrastructure at our Langley yard, laying the foundation for future expansion. Shortly after, we introduced our first battery-electric Class 8 truck into service, making R.R. Plett one of the few drayage operators in Western Canada actively running zero-emission units. We are now operating 6 Electric Volvo VNR units in our local drayage fleet.
We’re currently working with energy consultants and government partners to take full advantage of available incentives and carbon credit programs. Our team is also exploring battery storage solutions to help offset demand charges and ensure our charging capabilities grow alongside our fleet. This is just the beginning, and we’re moving forward with momentum.
The Road Ahead.
Our goal is clear: transition a significant portion of our fleet to zero-emission vehicles over the next decade. By 2030, we aim to have 100% of our local drayage fleet fully electric, with further expansion as technology and infrastructure allow. We’re evaluating additional depot charging stations, battery buffer systems, and even solar integration as part of a long-term energy strategy.
We also plan to expand our partnerships with manufacturers and clean tech providers to stay ahead of industry trends. As electric vehicle range, charging speed, and payload capacity continue to improve, we’ll scale our investments to match.
How It Benefits Our Customers
For our customers, the shift to electric trucking means tangible sustainability gains. Each shipment moved by one of our electric trucks translates into a measurable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, helping you meet corporate ESG goals and build greener supply chains.
Electric trucks also produce significantly less noise and air pollution, which is especially valuable in urban environments like Vancouver. And with improved cost stability over the long term, we’re better positioned to offer competitive, reliable service without the volatility of diesel pricing.
